Lexi is gone and I'm obviously not going to bed anytime soon...

Sep 28, 2005 01:23

At about 12:40am I was getting ready to go upstairs to go to bed. Lexi was laying on the floor near me patiently waiting to go to sleep with us. Even though Lexi is Michael's cat she generally would wait up with me to go to bed. Strange cat she was. Anyway, I went into the kitchen to get some water and right after I took a drink, I heard a THUD ( Read more... )

You did the right thing waking Michael: to wait for morning would have not only weighed on you all night, but it would have seemed cruel to him. As for complaining about a beloved pet: My Farrah (Gods rest her soul) was 9 1/2 when she died (a ferret). During the last year I complained sometimes about her incessant want for my attention and that when she gave kisses she nipped. As frustrating as having a little critter follow you constantly and constantly demand (she demanded, there was no requesting) your attention may have been, I regretted every single negative thought and actually didn't go to work for two days after her death. I felt like I had lost a child.

I guess the point of all that was that your feelings are completely normal. Eventually it will pass, but in the meantime just remember the positives and how much the cat enriched your lives.

That is so sad...losing a pet does leave a void, as even if they are bloody annoying at times and demanding, they are still a valued friend. You did do the right thing honey, you are a fantastic wife. It will be interesting to see waht the vet has to say? Was she really old or sick? Maybe she had eaten something baited with poison or something awful like that, as some people can be real mean assholes to animals sometimes.

I know what you're going through, and it's tough, but it'll get easier with time. I lost 2 dogs to cancer, one which I had gotten for my 1st birthday and had for 16 years.

*hugs*
And you did the right thing by waking Michael.
