I saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol tonight with the fam.

Basically, I wanted to see this movie for three reasons: 1) Simon Pegg is hilarious, 2) Jeremy Renner, and 3) Brad Bird because The Incredibles is legitimately one of my favorite movies in the sense that I can watch it as many times as I want to and it never fails to be entertaining ( Read more... )

Hahaha, I am also a huge fan of the TEAM model. That's actually why the third M:I film was my favorite. I kind of haaaate James Bond movies. They're so BORING. Like, I KNOW these people aren't going to be around in the next movie, so why do I care about them? When I finished watching Ocean's 11 for the first time (never seen the original), I was like, "WAIT. Everyone lives? No one tried to stab his friends in the back? THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER."

Yes! I mean, I don't think they HAVE to be boring, but let's be honest: Vesper Lynd's death had basically nothing to do with her own development and everything to do with Bond's. Or, in an example from a better written series: Sirius Black. His death was all about Harry and not really about him at all (in fact, he had the suckiest character arc ever!). It is difficult to invest in these characters when you know they're probably not going to stick around. A good storyteller can MAKE you care about them (SIRIUS! *sniffle*), but at a certain level they are props for the protagonist's development.

What's weird is that TV is so much better at ensembles -why don't more movies pick up that model?
