FWIW, I support OWS, but everybody who isn't white, straight, cis, and male has been hearing "We'll get around to solving your problems when we've solved the *important* ones" since, like, forever. It gets old.
Also, some people involved with OWS are distinctly hostile on SJ issues other than economic justice, like the "Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street" guy.

I don't know. I don't think so. I've been here since the start and I'm certainly more 'SJ' than what the 'average' is here when someone is bemoaning the sudden turn towards SJ. Sometimes people on the meme 'against SJ' are more extremist than the most extremist SJ in their zeal not to sound SJ ever ever.
It's like the meme wasn't founded to facilitate open and honest discussions or something!

I think this objection always comes up when people start noticing stock phrases of the type that get parroted in sf_drama and the like popping up. The "it's not my job to educate you", or "I can't even..." Those phrases that we all know by heart by now because they get repeated over and over and over... (It's definitely a different feel to the discussions. We tend to more in-depth discussion here, whereas dopiles tend to depend more on how many people you can get to say the exact same argument in response to the -ist person.)
So when we see someone new coming in with those 'red flag' phrases, I think it makes people wonder where the new people are coming from. (And, to me, it almost feels like it pulls the conversations we've had here back to Stage 1, if that makes sense.)

Oh, I don't dispute your experience at all. I'm approaching this as coming from some of the more..."dogpiley" comms, where the discussion rarely goes past the "Shut the fuck up and sit down" stage. The difference in discussion from where I came from to the discussion here is like night and day. That's what I based my comment on, and I'm more than willing to concede that it's got a "YMMV" aspect.

Right, knowing sf_drama a bit, I daresay this is like an oasis of measured discussion, trolls and all! (Though that's not saying much, and I think this place is better than that implies.)

Yeah, and unfortunately, many of those comms have huge memberships - FFR alone has over 10,000 members - so the chance we're pulling in someone from one of those comms is probably much higher than pulling in someone from a more nuanced comm. There have occasionally been links dropped off here that have been like a breath of fresh air, so I know those areas are out there, but by this time in my SJ experience, I've happily retreated into anonymity, so I'll probably stay here for awhile. :)

People who were here from the start should know by now we frown on people telling us they were here from the start, like that matters or something.
And I agree, there have been a number of SJish posts that stand out, because they're full of the horrible things we normally discuss here. When a significant number of recent posts go against the norms of the community, people are going to wonder why.

Anon from above you
Yeah, I was going to say something about the increase of posts that say, "Look at these horrible -ists in this thread!" but I couldn't get my phrasing right. Like, I'm not against someone pointing out a ~fail~, we do it all the time, but for meme's purposes, there usually isn't much to actually discuss about the straight-up fails. People are being shitty, okay, and about the only response you can find to even comment with is, "So. People are being shitty. Okay." It has that sf_drama feel to it, with whole pages of fails being posted, which... really isn't a surprise to me. I know those kind of people are out there; it's not so much with the shocking.
The situations that have some ambiguity seem to make up the meat of our meme sandwich. Gives us something to chew on.
