Given that like half the board is currently leaving for "personal reasons," and candidates are dropping out before they even begin to try, they probably recognized that they were beyond being able to protest at that point.

I think it's going to take a really spectacular failure clearly linked to NN to get her voted out. As it is now, look how people have been so reluctant to name her as responsible for certain controversial things? The voters are not going to vote her out unless it is clear there is some concrete reason not to vote her in.

And this is where the power issue comes up, of volunteers/internal members not having the ability to vote, because they KNOW she needs to be voted out. But actual paying members who stand off to the side and donate without knowing much about what really goes on will probably tend to blindly support NN and FC

Right now, one board member is on hiatus until the end of term, at which point her board term will be over, another is on hiatus, but coming back next year (as of now), and two are quitting their terms early because of this shit.
Protesting NN and FC's shit has, up to this point, only led to verbal abuse and stonewalling. Those board members who admit there are problems are running out of the wherewithal to even try to protest.

Not saying anything is the politically smart thing to do for NN, but it is a shit way to run an organization. And anything you've read so far about FC being hard to work with/for is understated, not overstated.

It's the way NN typically deals with any kind of controversy, and normally it works for her. But here it's a bad way to deal with the problem because she's explicitly running for a political office. Also, I think she really should address Jinjur and Renay's criticisms. We'll see, I guess, if she does.

DD about FC, nonnie, if you can? I've heard lots of stuff about NN but the thing about FC stonewalling the strategic plan is the first concrete thing I've heard and I am all D:!

Jinjur: "but. yeah. it still didn't happen. and the idea that we ever wouldn't be top-down and hierarchical in deciding what is best for fans (also, the idea that we give lip-service to different fannish cultures and diversity while simultaneously insisting there is only a single correct answer, and the little people should stfu and let us give it to them), is why i am out. i am not a fighter, i am not assertive in the face of belittling and condescension, and that (among other things) means i can not do any good at all for this org. and continuing to try in the way i have been the past 14 months will actively damage my health to no result. so. <3"
Holy crap. Then this means the critics were quite correct that there is belittling and condescension and high-handedness going on in the org, if this is what the chair of the board herself says.

From the beginning, this was the one (of many) things that made me leery of the OTW. All fans are equal, but some are more equal than others. Sadly, it would appear my apprehension was correct.
Fandom is too big, too unwieldy and far too diverse (especially those fandoms that have been ignored since OTW's inception) to place in a box with only a small group of self-proclaimed BNFs leaders who believe they can set the tone for a diverse and somewhat adversarial group(s) who have been perfectly thriving on their own for at least more than 100 years.

I have always been irritated at the media-fandom-centric unconscious bias of OTW, but it seems that people are determined to keep it that way. However, one positive thing is that people at high levels in the organization do seem to be aware of it... well, they're leaving also, so I guess the only thing one can say is that those persons determined to keep it that way were warned.

This has always frustrated me to the point of anger. I'm in older and pretty tiny fandoms, and nothing OTW has ever expressed in print or to the press represents me. To them, I don't exist, and have been basically been told that I really have no value to the organisation, and that if I want to receive any sort of respect or recognition that I'd have to work my ass off as a volunteer to receive any recognition.
Frankly, I'm not looking for hierarchical recognition in the organisation, but I do feel that my worth as a fan (small fandom or not) is as equal to some one in SPN, NU/original Star Trek, or even Friends.
And it's not fair that I would have to work twice as hard (gee, sound familiar?) as a volunteer to get half the recognition as someone in a much larger fandom. And this goes hand-in-hand with all that non-existent volunteer burnout that's been making the rounds.

Right now one Board Member is on hiatus until her term ends after the election, one is on hiatus, but coming back next year and two are quitting their terms early because of this shit.
Also, we just lost one candidate, because she already was worn out from pushing back against FC and NN just during the election cycle.
I feel like all of that just speaks for itself. I love the OTW, and I'm truly unsure whether it can survive Naomi and Cesca both being on the Board together again.
It's a long thread, but here's the crux of it:

I can see now why people think there will only be progress once the founders leave the board.

Honestly, I think NN is going to be voted and it will be very bad for OTW.
