You could build some beaded "bulbs" with wire and put them around the lights.

would be an awesome way to get beautiful colors of lights by using just white lights.

I actually want to get a few strings of LED Christmas lights. It's greener on the world, and it is lighter on the wallet.

I would have to make sure if I did cover the lights with beads that I got non-flammable finishes on the beads and so on and so forth. I am not sure, but it sounds like a hassle.

I have looked up LED lights and some of them are so stunning.

LED lights perform so well that heat usually isn't an issue. If it can't melt the plastic around the LED, then there's no worry about beads.

The only time I've seen an LED hot is when too much power is applied, and the most it does is begin to smolder about 5 minutes after it burns out.
