The city's a mess

At last! For what feels like the first time in weeks, I have an evening that is not full of school-related stress!
What does this mean?! Inevitable picture spamage.

I have a few pictures from the vigil to remember the missing and murdered Aboriginal women. This picture fills me up with so much hope and despair.

OH MY GOD THAT CAAAAAT. So freaking adorable! ;-;

Anti-Columbus Day? XD How's that go over? (Normally I just grumble/rant bitterly on Columbus Day, but after getting sick of being whitesplained to each year, I now just ignore it the best I can and try not to roll my eyes out of my skull.)

He's so incredibly annoying, but so very cute. It balances out. He's aslo stopped whining at 4 in the morning. I CAN SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT YAY.

In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving over this weekend so we can have the same day off as the States. Though it's not called "Columbus Day" we are still taught that the white folks and savages sat down together and had a jolly old civil time eating corn and turkey.
In my dad's words: I'm only grateful for the day off.

We call it "Thanksgiving" (we have Rememberence Day in November), but it's still crawling with all kinds of ~them Indians~ and those right proper white folks sad down and had a gay old time together. Oh, and the white folks taught them manners ( ... )

Oh, and I haven't actually read Uglies yet, eheheheh. I just got the entire series for so cheap. I couldn't resist. ;_; At library booksales softcovers are 50 cents and hardcovers $1.
Brett did read them, and while he said they are not the most amazing books ever, they're "pretty good". Well, he read them all in a week!

What an ADORABLE kitteh!

Ug, we don't have Columbis day here obviously, but we do have Australia day, which many lefties call invasion day, and do not consider it a day of celebration :/.

Grats on the 93% :).

If I was in Australia, I'd be all up in Invasion Day. Erg. I can't believe people don't understand how hurtful and AWFUL it is to Indigenous folks that we celebrate the day they were invaded.
WTF WORLD Y DO U SUCK?

We don't have Columbus day off at my college. I don't know if that's a deliberate political move, though it might be considering how crunchy we are here. Not saying that we are a paradise of social justice activism (if you read my last post you already know we have a problem with anti-feminism). I think lots of New Englanders like to feel superior because racism is thought of as a "Southern thing." We're so enlightened up here, with our gay marriage and hybrid cars. There's nothing left to work on, right? *eye roll*

I'm so sorry you have to put up with that. I'm going through much of the same, but with Indigenous rights. It's -always- white, hetero, ci-gendered males speaking about the evils of us ~ extremists ~.
And oh yes, here in Canada we are the epitome of love and caring and non-bigotry! I tend to get really grumpy when someone praises Canada for its ~ tolerance ~. We are crawling with HUSH HUSH bigotry. Like, I'm not racist, but...I'm not sexist, but...I'm not homophobic, but...I'm not ableist, but...
It's maddening. *bug hugs*
