This is very interesting because last night my dad and I were having a discussion about indigenous Canadians! I can't remember what exactly sparked off the conversation but... it's really cool to see something like this. :D

I always wonder how First Nations people are seen in the U.K.. Our relationship with the British Crown is so important because our treaties were all signed under it (this is why we invite the Queen to pretty much everything: she's a living symbol for treaty promises). Do people know this? How is Canada viewed in relation to Britain today? We learn so much about Britain in political studies, history and Indigenous studies because it's so interwoven into our history. We're still technically a constitutional monarchy, too. Though most people here don't care about the royals anymore and the Queen has pretty much no power.

Makes for an interesting conversation, anyway. So many questions I have!

Well... in school we never learnt very much about that sort of thing, unfortunately. History is all very focused on Europe in my experience, which I think is a bit sad considering the connections the UK has with countries like Canada in the past. When I was in primary school we learnt about ancient civilisations and a variety of things up to a few centuries past, but when education started to get more "serious" the focus shifted entirely to the last two centuries, which is a bit of a shame ( ... )

wow, i think it's amazing that indigenous peoples are taken care of in the way they are in canada! here in US the people who live on the reservations are treated horribly. i am part apache and my husband is part cherokee and native hawai'ian so, while we can't come anywhere close to personally understanding what you and your people have gone through, we do our best to honour our heritage and promote our peoples!

the necklace from your mom is FREAKING AMAZING. LOOOOVEEE IT!! :D
