"While clothes do not...make the man...they can add a certain spice to the recipe."

While out shopping yesterday, Heather and I stopped at Anthropologie, where I discovered a dress that I covet madly. Two problems: 1) it is a dress (I have worn a dress exactly once in the last year), and 2) it is $178. But it is über-comfy and looks good on me (in my humble opinion). Thus, I submit it for your judgement. And also because I am ( Read more... )

very very very cute! and it looks casual enough that it could be worn day to day, not just for something special...

The price is a bit off-putting, yes. And if you don't feel like you would wear it too much... well, I wouldn't get it then.

but it is still so cute!

PS. If that is your new hair cut it is v. v. v. cute too.... :0)

Thank you! That is my dilemma. I could justify it by noting its great versatility (just think how leggings or different shoes could dress it up or down!), but that reminds me of the Friends episode where Monica falls in love with a pair of obscenely expensive boots that end up being excruciatingly painful.

I do not know. Perhaps I shall purchase it on Dad's AmEx and inform my parents that that's what they're giving me for Christmas.

Wow, it looks bloody fantastic on you. I looked at the picture of the dress first, and was dubious that anyone could pull it off, but you look great.

I say get it. Something like that doesn't come along that often.

High praise, indeed.

I have to agree on principle. This is only the second dress I've loved in the last seven years, at least. It's the expenditure itself that gives me pause.

Good thing Christmas is coming, hm?

Wouldn't your family actually be happy to get you that for Christmas, since it is a dress?

I have to agree with Sara that when I looked at the pictures I wasn't at all sure, but you do look fantastic.

May I covet the shoes as well?

Are you suggesting that my family wants me to be more of a girl? As long as I'm neither a complete frump nor a complete slut in my apparel, they tend not to care immensely how I dress. My mother and sister like me to look good, but dresses and skirts do not necessarily look good on the women in my family.

Thank you! And of course you may.

They don't? Why is it that dresses and skirts only work on some people?

Oh, jolly good.

That other comment didn't help at all, did it?

Are you serious? You have met my sister, haven't you?

One has to have the height, legs, and shape for them. We're short, which means that skirts tend to make us look dumpy. We also have sizable calves, which contribute to the image. Furthermore, where I'm concerned, my waist is relatively too small for my hips, which means that most skirts hang oddly on me. We do better with skirts that hit between mid-thigh and just below the knee, but since most skirts are designed for taller women, most skirts don't hit where they're supposed to on us. A skirt that hit just below your knees would probably hang to about mid-calf on me.

Nope, not really.

Here's the one I like. Have no idea how it would actually look on me, of course.

I really like the Baltic, would probably look really good in the plum, but really? I desperately want a red dress.

And the link is too large and I can't find the stinkin' help page to figure out how to put it behind the link, although I have a general idea of

The link was too large? Was it messing up my margins?

Regardless, the code is [a href="URL"]text[/a], only with <>, of course, instead of [].

That is a pretty dress. And normally, I'd agree about the red. I don't like that red, though; it looks too orange to me. If you were to get it, I would definitely say that you should go with the plum. It's a beautiful colour, and while the baltic is lovely, I'm kind of over that shade of blue.

It was.

Thank you!

Does it look orange-y? Not that I can afford it anyway. But yes, I think plum would actually look quite good on me.

Adorable icon, by the way.

Ah. Well, then, thank you for your consideration.

Welcome!

Not per se, but it isn't nearly red enough for my taste. If I'm going to wear something that's red, I want it to be a deep cranberry hue, not an insipid red that's heavy on the orange or pink.

Thanks! I've been meaning for ages to put it up; this was an excellent excuse to actually do so.

I do love those shoes. Too bad I never look good in flats like that. Or most flats for that matter.

That is unfortunate. I adore flats with a great and wibbly love. They remind me of the phase I went through as a kid when I refused to wear anything but slip-on shoes. And besides, there are so many absolutely adorable ones out there.
