-read it straight through-

Wow. That is marvellous, darling. I think I might have to purchase those black wing earrings. They are so lovely, and we can match.

How close did I come to buying you one of those little plushie things? The bookworm one, I believe. I am very glad we agreed on something else, however, because otherwise you would have gotten duplicates (not that this would have been altogether bad, but still.)!

Those books sound completely drool-worthy. And by this I do not mean falling asleep due to lack of interest and drooling on their beautiful pages (because I am sure you needed that specification.).

I love you. A lot.

I scanned a little. :D But yeah, my dad actually found that newspaper on a recent trip to Boston.

(Yeah right. Like he'd go to Boston for anything.)

Erm. Anyway. Sounds like loads of fun. (I typoed every word in that sentence, and this one too. What's happening to me?)

Ummm. And.... Oh, I sent you an invite to the Bible community, but if you want you can also go to "Begin_to_End" and request to join. Think that's all I have to say.

Ah, I thought as much. :D

"The Secret of Roan Inish" is one of my favorite movies. And I've always seen it spelled selkie, not selchie. They are one of my favorite legends too. Bought a book based on just them not too long ago.

There was a Hallmark movie a little while ago called "The Seventh Stream" which dealt with a Selkie in love with a man. It was actually quite good. And I thought "The Secret of Roan Inish" dealt with the offspring issue quite well.

Dad showed us The Secret of Roan Inish several years ago--I think I was eleven at the time--and I'd completely forgotten almost everything about it, except that it was about selchies and I'd loved it. :D I was very eager to see it again. I just wish it had been in widescreen. And not on video. (Maybe it's just my film geek side, but for some reason it's harder for me to take something seriously when it's in full-screen; maybe because it reminds me of made-for-television movies too much. I don't know. Dad has bad eyes, and he hates widescreen, so we bicker about it all the time. ^-^)

I've always spelled it 'selchie' simply because one of my earliest acquaintances with the legend was the Solas version of the ballad, and it's spelled that way there: but looking for LJ interests proved me outnumbered. Drat. I just like the letter C.

I'm looking into some selchie books--The Book of Ballads recommended several in the foreword, and I remember a legend or two in a beautifully illustrated book of Irish mythology I got from the library years ( ... )

I'm a BIG "Widescreen" snob. I can still watch video or full screen if that's all you've got, but if I buy a DVD (or get one as a gift) it'd BETTER be Widescreen. I've seen too many documentaries on how they freaking edit out footage to fit into a "full screen" format. It just ticks the purist in me off that they're editing the film for something so ridiculous. I'd much rather have widescreen where I can see what the director had originally wanted me to see. And then there's "pan and scan" which is a whole other debacle (they do this for tv movies usually, but also for full screen formats sometimes). I can't stand someone else tinkering with my movies at random. No way Hosea! I'm a Widescreen girl!

I don't have time to comment on all of this, 'cause I'm supposed to be doing Useful Household Things according to my mom, but...

First of all, selkies! I read a really, really fantastic fic about those once, I think -- it was in the Supernatural fandom, but I think it'd make sense without being in the fandom. If you're interested I'll dig up the link.

I am jealous of Heidi's E. Coli. xD And nesting boxes are really, really cool.

Ooh, please do link! I have a passing acquaintance with Supernatural (mostly due to, er, fanmixes; I know far too much about far too many fandoms now, it's kind of scary), so I could probably pick things up pretty quickly. Also, Irish mythology pwns everything except Welsh. (Not that I've read much in those areas, actually.)

*giggles* We have been making far too many e. coli jokes around here. I kind of want to get spinach and take a photograph of the e, coli sitting on it. (For the record, I think it is cuter than the Black Death, but I wanted the Black Death particularly in regards to the historical geekery. Also, the Black Death looks almost exactly like my kitten, except with all of his body parts removed. ...Wait, eew.)

Supernatural. ♥ Some of the best stuff I've read this year, books included, has been in this fandom, and it's -- if you ever get a chance? Honestly, watch it. I know the premise sounds shaky, but it's fantastic.

Anyway, selkie fic. This should be it; I did quite a bit of digging to find it. whereupon's By This Light. She's one of my favourite fic-writers.
