More Letter Thingummys

Dear Muse,

I'm really very sorry about ignoring you. I am sorry for refusing to let you have any of my cookies. I am extremely sorry for siccing the cat on you when you tried to jostle me awake at two in the morning with one of your propositions. Even if the cat didn't actually do anything but sit limply on your stomach. Which is about all he's ever ( Read more... )

It's ok. Lot's of writers talk to the Muses. It's a perfectly normal form of insanity (I don't talk to the Muses, but I talk to my Story, and what's worse, he cooks scrambled eggs and hash browns in my kitchen, and then doesn't clean the pan). Umm . . . that was supposed to be encouraging, but I'm not sure that it was.

I wonder if that's why we have such a quantity of filthy dishes in the sink. Although I have never had a story attain a mind of its own. Or a gender, for that matter. It's always the people in them who think they run things. They usually just redecorate my bedroom and hide my pens, although I swear Tuesday followed me to Goodwill once and possessed me.

And I suppose it's vaguely encouraging to find that there are other similarly delusional challenged people wandering about in the world. Either that, or it means the world is thoroughly doomed; either way, something's interesting.

This is the first story that has taken over my brain so completely, and developed a personality. My characters are always very strong willed when it comes to the story, but they refuse to come out and play. I've tried interviewing them, but they don't want to talk. Unlike the Story, who is very good looking, and charming to everyone but me. He could get away with murder, and he knows it, and he isn't even very helpful (he refuses to tell me anything, on the grounds that he is not a Muse).

If the world is doomed, it won't be because of us authors. It's a singularly useful and generally harmless dilusion. Authors are supposed to be *interesting*, not normal.

My goodness. That sounds a bit discomfiting. Though I rather like the mental image of a good-looking bloke making eggs on a perfectly prosaic stove and then attempting to eat them in a charmingly dangerous manner.

No, if the world is doomed, it will probably be because some character escapes from some book somewhere and Seeks Revenge. Which is really rather silly of them, as most of us don't torment them needlessly throughout the entire story. (Although Neil has already begun to protest his being dead. He seems easygoing enough, though, at least so far.)

Hello.

I have been lurking around your journal for a while, when I decided it'd be easier if I just asked to be added. Your entries are very interesting to me, as well as your writing and your graphics.

So. Would it be all right if we did the add/be added thing? :)

Aww! Well, thankee! I'm always magnificently thrilled when anyone takes it into their head to add me or read my crazy ramblings. I'm quite flattered. (I also started two sentences with "I'm". This is a bad thing.)

Adding!
