Er, if you follow me on Tumblr at all you will maybe understand a bit more to what ridiculous effect Tangled has taken over my soul. I don't always -- um, usually -- get so completely heart-bound up in a movie, and certainly not so quickly; what is this sorcery? Anyway, precious little of my fannish ramblings ever see the light of outside-my-head,

What I love is that those two final moments--Eugene cutting her hair and Rapunzel saying she won't fight Gothel--are all about *self-gift*. Emptying yourself--your life, and your agency--for the sake of the beloved.

This too! I was concentrating so much on my ~thesis~ that the scene looks a little robotic as I tell it, but yes! Their exchange -- "I can't let you die!" "But if you do this, you will die" (and I love that he understands just what a death of the spirit that would be for her) -- is really quiet and beautiful, especially as their entire relationship arc largely involves bending towards each other and learning to give of themselves.
