you must be the seed: descend into the earth

Oh, internet, lately you are making me really sad.

It seems as though no matter where I may be roaming through the interwebs, I'm pleasantly enjoying myself until -- wham! -- suddenly I stumble over a spike of anti-Christian vitriol.

And then I just sit there and feel... not angry, or even very offended -- just really, really sad.

Yes, it bothers ( Read more... )

Hello. I love you.

There's this whole culture that won't take anything seriously and nothing's allowed to be sacred or beautiful.

YES. I know that many of my peers and even most adults think I'm some sort of pretentious freak because I love poetry and art films and classical music. What's wrong with loving what's beautiful? I really don't understand at all.

What you had to say about Christianity: ♥ I love that metaphor - "like it's your spine."

Exactly! I don't understand why everything has to be mocked in this culture. It's one thing not to understand a thing, but to mock and deride anything that you don't immediately ken -- it's just ugly to me. I find that I mind people mocking me for enjoying something beautiful a lot more hurtful than people simply looking down on me for it. (Although this could be because then I argue and I'm really bad at arguing but this knowledge never seems to stop me from trying. :/)

And sometimes it gets to the point that anything serious or genuine is up for derision, so people can't even have honest emotions without it being ridiculous, and this makes me very, very angry.

That's the problem I have with the term "emo." Some media really does wallow in emotion more than is healthy, but I constantly hear people labelling anything even slightly emotional as "emo." It's terrible that no one can be serious about anything anymore.

Aww. ♥

I guess I'm lucky that somehow being burned by religious people, and frakked over immensely by religious people, has not made me bitter about religion? There's a Truth in there too deep for foolish people to tarnish it for me, I suppose.

Yes about sniping at each other -- everybody cut it out right now! Sometimes I feel like I'm locked up with my younger siblings in a month of rain. :P Especially as my family's ended up in a lot of different church circles and somebody's always fussing about how this church or denomination does something and how this church isn't a real Christian church or how anyone who is/isn't Catholic isn't really saved and I'm just... GUYS THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN THIS. Especially because a lot of what people disagree on is more practises than beliefs -- and while I think that there's only one truth, I also think that there's a lot of debate room as to which belief is the one that's true, and furthermore there might be different ways of approaching the same thing. And then there are the ( ... )

I am so glad this post is public because I am linking this on my journal and asking people to read it because yes. It rings with truth and it's human and fallible and wonderful. And now I shall explain why I just want to say "THIS." really loudly, and ( ... )

There's always a certain percentage of people in every religion that hurt their fellow humans, sometimes in the name of their religion. It doesn't matter to that sort of person what the religion is; they simply use it as a justification for whatever bigtory, genocide, and prejudice they'd have done anyway. Because Christianity is so huge, there are many people of this sort within it, and that's part of why Christianity is unpopular with some people ( ... )
