I haven't read Chalice yet (it is sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for me to have a guilt-free break), but there should be more books in that category. It's one of the things I like about Patricia McKillip's books aside from the Riddlemaster books (not that I don't love those as well, but they are fairly Only You Can Save the Entire Universe, or At Least This Particular Bit of It). And, well, I have no skills in that department anyway; all my stories come out small and personal, even if I didn't intend them that way in the first place.

And yes, I especially get excited seeing high fantasy with less of the epic high stakes, because I'm curious about what goes on in the world when a hero isn't saving it from annihilation. I wonder what sort of common plots could be transposed to a high fantasy setting?

Hey, if people want them, no reason to hold the clothes back even if they are unattractive. That's an awesome little business. ^_^ A Robin McKinley book I haven't read - this trend is occurring far too often. Must get back to my preteen roots where I raided her section of the library weekly.
