the novel is pretty much writing me at this point

Of all the things I thought research might accomplish, forcing me to write a sequel to the ever-present Novel that isn't even half-finished yet was not really something that crossed my mind.

Ah well, I'm a young writer yet. Eventually I'll learn there are Things To Watch Out For.

So: I've been reading as much about the Edwardians and the Great War ( Read more... )

mr caruthers' sordid past, geekery, i heart learning, the evangeline story, books, pen in my hand, my fictional boyfriends, oh help, hurrah for research!, the writing life, emily of new moon

Novels are by far the best way to learn about history I think. I learned more reading the American Girl History Mysteries than I did in probably any history text when I was younger.

Yeah... I do exactly the same thing! Although I've not actually written much, if any, of the stories I've developed, I always get so caught up in the research. One story in particular has about a dozen versions, in various time periods, because one thing would lead to another and I just couldn't pick one location to drop the poor characters in.

Also? History and accurate historical fiction are made of win.
