Swordplay (Hetalia fic)

So I've been writing a oneshot series for Hetalia, and this one is probably the best I've done so far, I think. So I decided to share it here, and will be cross-posting to the Hetalia comm I found. :D I apologize for the lack of Inception fic lately; it seems that the Tudor muse has taken full control again, if the rate I'm churning out chapters ( Read more... )

I originally clicked on this because as I do stage combat, I was automatically interested in the concept of swordfighting in a fic. Though not exactly what I expected, I still love family stories so I quite enjoyed it ^_^ A good spar is a healthy bonding exercise between bros ( ... )

Whoops, I take one point back. In second thought, broadswords are pretty good slicers, but rapiers cut and thrust, so against broadswords they would be better for inflicting injury as well as switching easily from offense to defense, and vice versa.

I admit to not knowing as much about swords as I would like, but you are right in that I stuck to the broadsword because it is more native to the Isles - though I was thinking more along the lines of tradition than stubborn pride. Though with these siblings, I think they all have more than their share of that. Not to mention the tsundere thing - England and Scotland to a lesser extent, less sure about the others.

Hmm. That quarterstaff... Hong Kong and North are still friends - I figure there's nothing that could be used to refute that idea and I like it - so that's something I might have to keep in mind. Thanks! :)

I'm glad you liked it even if it's not what you expected. (It's not what I expected either, to be honest, it got away from me very fast.) It's good bonding, though this lot have oh so many issues between them. But under it they love each other. I'm not sure they always know that.

I love this! Although I only know the canon nations (I'm Brazilian and know very little about Britain history) I could picture them all in my mind - Cornwall in the last part of the fic brought tears to my eyes. ;___;

This is going to my memories... thank you for sharing! :-)

I'm glad you liked it! A very basic explanation is that England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland make up the whole of the UK, and Cornwall is a part of England. All of them were at one point their own countries, and Ireland itself is currently an independent country, though at one time Britain controlled it too. There is much more to the story but I'm hardly an expert.

I didn't mean to make anyone cry, but I'll also say that kind of strong reaction is what writers love to create, so that's a definite compliment. :D
