Not Quite Parisienne

Many of the experiences I have had in Paris, the trials and tribulations of living alone in a big unfamiliar city, could have occurred anywhere. But living in Paris has certainly made my assumed adulthood more exciting.

Although I have now become accustomed to living alone, it wasn’t easy at first. I remember how I cried after my boss and his ( Read more... )

Yo, I might be in your city around mid August so you should let me sleep on your ugly orange couch.

i had a friend who used to refer to them as "shag pads."

what makes the couch extra-ugly isn't the color or the amount of wear, but the design itself. it's just never had hope.

and i love your writing. and i think i said this before but differently, but i don't know if there is a way to start in a new city that feels remotely good, especially after being alienated by the television.

so my big question about paris, besides have you read the sun also rises and visited everywhere in the book, is: have you used the radio?

lol

i have read the sun also rises, but haven't seen everything in the book since i work long hours and haven't done anything touristy yet!

and my landlord used the radio once to show me how it works. i will try to turn it on while i'm alone someday soon. i promise!

sooo how's la??

you should also be playing cassette tapes on the radio.

actually, you should be doing whatever the fuck you want.

you already blew the sun also rises by not skipping town and going to the san fermin festival [which is the one famous thing i actually *have* to do]. so ignore what i just wrote; you're a disappointment.

i wish i knew of cool suggestions to give you, but you're probably finding the best of everything since you had the initiative to move to paris to study. and you might be at the sorbonne? how much shit do you want on your resume? :).

l.a. has been very...quiet. i'm room-sitting for my cousin this week and have been reading a lot of poetry this summer and watching movies i thought i should see and temping like two days a week while i wait to hear about jobs. it's been a strange little sabbatical from life. i keep having nightmares. but other than that, i love this place and really can't believe yet that i wake every day in l.a.

i'm embarrassed, because i haven't done anything touristy. i'll put up a full album on the internet (and fb) once i've done things like that. right now, i only have random hanging out pix with friends.

ok, so, reading your lj has been really intersting because (and i don't know if yo'uve been reading mine or not but) i'm going to be in paris this fall for study abroad.

i was going to say we should meet up and catch up but apparently you're leaving two days before i show up.

guess we have that cleared up.

hope you're having a fantastic time. i look forward to reading about your experiences....

aw, martin! of course i still read your journal. i'm a hardcore internet stalker (to the death). i also look at your fb profile sometimes. i'm a little scary (but harmless).

are you going to be there all year or only for the fall? there is a very good possibility that i will return in january to study at la sorbonne-nouvelle for the spring semester (but it's not definite yet).

that sucks that i will miss you by two days :(

where will you be living?
are you going through the tufts program?
remind me before you leave to give you names/addresses of cool places to hang out, bars, restaurants that aren't too expensive, etc.

and i am having a fantastic time, i wish i could stay longer! i don't want to leave yet :(

I'm living here. And no, I'm actually doing Vassar-Wesleyan.

I'm only there for the fall. Sooooooooo... we're missing each other twice! Just when I thought I was going to know ONE person there. Fantastic. I'm actually seriously intimiated by the whole "being alone in Paris without knowing anyone else there thing" especially since you're living with it right now. Are you managing to hang in there?

Write more about your experience, it's helping me prepare for mine!
