Last weekend I saw NEWS for the first time in Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya! It was my first time seeing NEWS, my first time seeing a show in that venue, and the very first show of the whole tour, so it was especially exciting! I'm not going to write a whole real report, because NEWS isn't one of my main groups, I don't know all their songs, and I'm sure there are a lot of other fans who will do a better job, but I just wanted to get down a few things that were amusing to me!
Recently, one of my close friends,
9kinds, has been really into NEWS, so I've become more aware of them in relation to her, but I've had an appreciation and admiration for NEWS for a long time just as a group that's made up of senpai to the boys I follow and therefore a group that they look up to and has had an impact on them and on the agency in general. There are a lot of awesome and talented senpai groups out there, but as the people directly above JUMP, I've always had a lot of respect for 4-member NEWS and KAT-TUN, so I was happy when she asked if I wanted to see the show with her.
I'd never been to Nippon Gaishi hall before either, but it has the potential to become one of my favourite venues! It's slightly smaller than Yokohama Arena at a capacity of 10,000 people, but the shape is a circle, rather than an arena (oval) shape, so the setup is different. The view seemed like it was quite good pretty much from anywhere. We were in the stands slightly behind an aisle, so it was really easy to see everything, and we had a great view of the main stage, as well. It was a really great setup, and I never felt like I was struggling to follow what the guys were doing.
It was the first show of the tour, so there were a lot of issues, which is the main amusing thing that I wanted to comment on XD; There were a lot of cute moments (especially between Tegoshi and Koyama! ♥) but the best part by far is when Tego got too excited at the beginning of Kaguya and pushed his umbrella open too far, breaking it. XD He struggled for a while to try to get it back, but eventually had to give up through the first chorus, until a time when they walk around and grab the umbrella from the top. He then tried to push it back into the correct shape, but instead broke the umbrella completely and ended up having to toss it off the back of the stage XD; He finished the song without it, just sort of doing the dance moves as best he could, and full of confidence as usual, and it was pretty amusing. |D;
When they got to the MC, Koyama brought up that he had broken his umbrella, and Tego explained what happened, Massu replied that he had been thinking he'd let Tego share his umbrella at a time when they hide behind the umbrella, but instead, Tego just did the move without the umbrella and made it seem "like the rest of them were wrong for having the umbrella" XD;; Koyama also said he'd been fretting about trying to get another umbrella for him from one of the juniors or something, and then when they asked Shige, he replied that he hadn't even noticed that Tego broke his umbrella |D;;;
After that in the MC, the other really amusing thing was that somehow, Tego got onto the topic of saying Koyama really loved him. Eventually, Koyama replied that Tego loved him, too, because he always watched News Every and texted Koyama his thoughts on it. Koyama tried to get Tego to say he loved him, and Tego got super embarrassed and started laughing awkwardly. The other two decided that this meant Tego needed to kabe-don Koyama |D; Tego was really not into this idea, but they made him |D He got really embarrassed and blushed and was laughing embarrassedly, and it was really cute and genuine.
I don't have that much else to say about the guys, but in terms of the show, it really showed that it was the first day. There were some tech errors and awkward trasitions, and at one point the smoke was so thick that Massu came onstage but there were no screams because the crowd didn't see him there |D;;; They mentioned that in the MC, and said it was a special treat for us to see the show that was "like a rehearsal" XD;
9kinds tells me the show she went to on the following evening was much cleaner. They had 8 Juniors as backup, but the only one I recognized was Sharufu.
All in all I had a really good time! I knew a good chunk of the songs either because I listen to them or because Juniors do them, and NEWS all put on a really great performance! The performance quality itself was just really high, and I really enjoyed it.
Okay, so that wasn't really a report at all. Whoops. Well, that's what left an impression on me |D; Sorry that it sort of sucks, but hopefully the few anecdotes are amusing, anyway! XD;
