I'm spamming something terrible today, aren't I? @___@; Sorry in advance!
So, today,
yomimashou and I watched the glorious Samurai Mode! It wasn't, in my opinion, quite as good as Maharaja Mode, because, well, Nagayan wasn't in it, and there wasn't any character like Parvati. XD; Also, the dark lighting wasn't really my thing; I really liked the lighting they used for MahaMo (wtf random, I know. XD;) Of course, there were the lovely parallels (Tuti likes being the 裏切り者, doesn't he? XD;), and I really did quite enjoy it. Saiga, in particular, was totally amazing, and honestly, I never thought I'd think one of Daiki's characters was sexy, but there you go.
Anyway, naturally, I had to write fic about it. XD; I'm totally super cool, I know. >>;;
Title: Love
Disclaimer: Samurai Mode belongs to *pnish*
Rating: PG
Pairing: Shisui/Saiga
Warnings: BL... drabbly?
Author's Note: Saiga is the coolest ever *___*
Love is not a word that exists in Shisui's vocabulary. There are many things one might classify similarly, certainly; loyalty, trust, allegiance, but not love. Love, after all, is a fairy tale made up to appease children who have nothing better to do with their time, and any notion of damsels in distress or foolish decisions made for the sake of those of the female persuasion is completely outside of his realm of understanding. He does have better things to do, after all, he has a battle to win and a clan to protect, and he cares little about trivial things like affections and romance. It simply was not one of his concerns.
He's been accused of being cold before, and to this, he does not object; he is cold, because what is warmth but weakness? He can be honorable without being emotional, he can fight for his cause without losing his wits, his mind, himself. He's been accused of not having a heart, which, of course, cannot be true; there is, naturally, an organ in his chest keeping his blood pumping through his veins, and it's not as if his pulse doesn't quicken with adrenaline in the heat of battle. He doesn't think it as ludicrous as others seem to that he simply finds no need for silly attachment when it could mean the difference in the life or death situations that were his day to day experience.
The matter of Saiga seems to be a sticking point in the eyes of practically everyone who knows them, but Shisui can't understand what the issue is. Alliance, dependability, partnership are different than the silly worthlessness that is love, because they have meaning, they're substantial, and sometimes, they're the line between winning and losing. Obviously, he doesn't feel faint or weak in the knees when he stands beside his fellow clan leader, but rather, he knows that, no matter what, he can rely on Saiga, that Saiga will have his back and always stand beside him, and Shisui can't understand how people fail to see the difference. What he feels--what he has with Saiga is so far removed from any notion of love that Shisui considers it ridiculous and insulting to even compare the two.
After all, there's nothing romantic about retreating back to a small inn room at the end of a tiring, fruitless day, and there's nothing sweet or touching about bandaging one another's wounds in silence as they consider any way they might move forward from here. There's nothing sentimental about huddling together in the dark to fend off the cold, but yet, somehow, Saiga, unfathomable creature that he can sometimes be, seems to see it this way, anyway.
"Do you love me?" he coos teasingly, resting his head on Shisui's shoulder in the dark, and though he can't see it, Shisui is sure he's smiling in that way he does when he thinks he's being funny. He knows the word makes Shisui uncomfortable, which is, Shisui is sure, exactly why he uses it.
"No," Shisui replies, his tone indifferent, but he tightens his arms around Saiga's waist, pulling him a little closer, all the same.
