"You know, he's desperately in love with you."

Gakuto furrowed his brow. Laying in Yuushi's bed, he had been half-asleep, vaguely aware of Yuushi's breath on the back on his neck, causing his hair to move just so that it ticked his ear slightly. It was a little irritating, but Yuushi's arms were wrapped tightly around his waist and his body was warm against Gakuto's, and it was Gakuto's favourite arrangement for falling asleep. And so he had been planning on doing just that when Yuushi spoke, voice low and thoughtful and vaguely amused. Gakuto had no idea what he was talking about.

A soft chuckle. "I know you're awake, Gakkun."

With a grumble, Gakuto squirmed out of Yuushi's arms to roll over to face him, resting on his elbow and propping his head up. He pouted dramatically, causing Yuushi to smirk, which made it all the more infuriating. "I am now. And stop calling me that, it's not cute."

"My most sincere apologies," he replied, smooth and slick as ever as he placed a kiss on Gakuto's forehead. "How can I ever make it up to you, Gakuto?"

Gakuto's pout fell away despite himself; he sighed, shaking his head and allowing Yuushi to draw him back into his arms, resting his face against Yuushi's chest. "You can start by explaining what the hell you're talking about. Who's this who's madly in love with me?"

"Ah, yes." Yuushi chuckled again, and Gakuto was beginning to wonder what was so funny. True, Yuushi often seemed to revel in the disappointment of other boys who thought that had a chance with Gakuto when they clearly did not and often delighted in dashing their hopes with rather inappropriate public displays of affection, but Gakuto hadn't been aware of any drooling high schoolers or starry-eyed underclassmen recently, and had entirely no idea what Yuushi was talking about. When Yuushi still didn't respond, he gave him a soft punch in the stomach. "C'mon, jackass, tell me what you're talking about."

"Your abuse wounds me, Gaku-chan," Yuushi drawled back, but continued before Gakuto had a chance to get another insult in. "I'm talking about Hiyoshi-kun, of course. Haven't you noticed?"

No. No, Gakuto most certainly hadn't noticed.

He opened his mouth to speak, but the wheels in his head were having trouble remembering how to turn, and "...the fuck?" was all that came out. This just didn't make sense-- Hiyoshi?! Gakuto wasn't even sure Hiyoshi really had emotions outside of "gekokujyou," if that even was an emotion, and... and Gakuto would have noticed if Hiyoshi loved him. Sure, he wasn't the brightest, but he hadn't slept around his first year of middle school for nothing-- he could tell those sorts of things! Yuushi must be crazy, because there was just no way Hiyoshi would be in love with him. "That's stupid, Yuushi. Piyo's my doubles partner."

Yuushi raised an eyebrow. "Let's pause a moment to recall how your first doubles partnership ended up," he commented dryly, and, okay, he had a point, but that was entirely different!

"How do you know, then?" he pouted. "Wouldn't you think I would notice if Piyo'd been flirting with me?"

"He hasn't been," Yuushi countered with a shrug. "Honestly, can you see Hiyoshi-kun flirting? But he's completely head over heels over you. He practically forgets how to walk and trips over his own feet when you're in the same room, you know."

"But we bicker," Gakuto protested, not entirely sure why he was so adverse to the idea in the first place. What did he care if Hiyoshi was in love with him? Plenty of boys thought they were in love with him, and he couldn't care less. But Hiyoshi... no, he simply couldn't be. He just couldn't.

Yuushi looked at him skeptically. "The boy's in eighth grade, Gakuto, what do you expect?"

"Well," Gakuto spluttered, "We were in seventh, you know..."

Yuushi laughed at that, giving Gakuto a firm smack on the ass, much to Gakuto's annoyance. "Not every boy is as well versed in the arts of wooing as I am, Gakuto. You're with a tensai, after all."

"Probably because Piyo watches normal stuff in his free time," Gakuto shot back with a snort, which earned him another raised eyebrow.

"Are you interested in him, Gakucchi?"

That earned Yuushi another smack, this time across the face. "Stop it with the pet names, already! And of course not!"

Yuushi laughed, pulling Gakuto closer even as he attempted to squirm away. "I didn't mean in a relationship sense. You know I'm never, ever letting you go, whether you like it or not. But I wouldn't be so bothered if you wanted to sleep with him."

It was Gakuto's turn to raise an eyebrow. "You're crazy, Yuushi."

"I'd be watching, of course."

"Okay, so you're a pervert."

"You hurt me so, Gakuto." Another chuckle. "All right, go to sleep, then. But I told him he wasn't to touch you unless you came to him first, so keep that in mind."

Settling back into Yuushi's arms, Gakuto didn't reply for a few, long minutes. There was an odd churning in his stomach now, though he didn't understand what it was. He didn't want to sleep with Hiyoshi, he was perfectly certain, so what was the issue here?

Nothing, he told himself. There was no issue. Things would look better in the morning and he'd just forget about it, and with that thought in mind, he sighed and closed his eyes. "'Night, Yuushi."

"Sweet dreams, Gakuto."

To the contrary, however, Gakuto fell asleep telling himself that he certainly wasn't attracted to Hiyoshi, and when he woke up the next morning, he felt even more uncertain than before.
