Off-camera Kinski managed to menace the crew too, threatening to kill Herzog and shooting a crewmember.

The hell?

As the story goes, they were camped in fairly squalid conditions on the banks of the Amazon. In the night Kinski became infuriated by some of the crew's high spirits as they played cards in a hut.
He took a rifle and fired randomly through the wall of the hut, shooting off the tip of a man's finger in the process.

I got the Werner Herzog collection for my birthday so I'm looking forward to ploughing through that. Strangely I've never seen a Werner Herzog film that didn't feature Klaus Kinski.
