This is not a reflection of my relationship with my own mom.

LOL! And uh (coughs nervously), you have Anubis, too?

I'm sure there's room for more than one Anubis! Also I dunno if Anubis will ever appear in a book, except as a bit part... (Hey, I can use my Anubis icon though!)

Well, true. After all, the same stray comment from second son led to both me and my husband writing books starring Anubis, and they are very, very different, even from two people in the same house.

Cool icon!

My Anubis is Arestin's Grim Reaper. So he was given a Death-y name. But I'm not sure he lives up to it. He is mainly adorable and innocuous. I don't know what your Anubis is like, but somehow I don't think you have to worry about overlap...

I'm glad you followed suit! It was fun. You have more rad moms in your stories, though... I feel bad for my moms. I've been trying to give them a little more of a break lately.

LOL--I had one critique partner point out my tendency to have mean mothers with deep rooted problems. My real mother doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

Glad your wrist and elbow feel better.

Of course...when I did write a slightly nice mom, I got a lot of "no teenagers like their mother that much, rawr!!" And I was like...really? I mean...LOTS of my friends as a teenager liked their mothers...

My mom used to complain that Disney movies were sexist because the mother was almost always dead or killed off early on in the story. But I guess if the mother is in the picture the protagonist has less of an obvious problem to overcome so there will be less of a dramatic story?

Yeah...it makes a lot of sense, but I still think out of dozens of characters I could surely write a few decent moms. They don't HAVE to ruin the story, do they? There are plenty of dads around.
