I've been thinking some more about the fictional characters on whom I've had crushes. Phileas Fogg and Sherlock Holmes vied with D'Artagnan and Donny Osmond in my pre-teen fantasy life

Stargate

I saw Stargate a couple of times when it came out (took different friends each time). I liked it more than anybody else I knew. One (male) friend asked why so many women went to what might have been perceived a guy movie. That might have been a misperception, anyway, but my reply was that there were not many romantic movies that summer. How sweet and chaste it was - they didn't even sleep together until Daniel discovered that they were married.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Daniel's romantic side is definitely part of the appeal. I also think the story was compelling.

If I remember correctly, it was also released on a weekend where not much else was playing.
