yeah, i finally broke down and joined BookCrossing . In case you are not familiar with it, its a web page where people get unique identifying codes for their books, which they then "release into the wild".  You hand the book off to be free, leave it in a train station, or at a Science Fiction Convention, or wherever, and hopefully the person who ( Read more... )

Sounds like a wonderful idea. I'd be willing to let go of some of my books. Jill on the other hand reads hers over and over. To her, the books are worth more than gold.

I started reading at age 4 and always loved books so I started reading to my daughters the day I came home from the hospital with them and they love to read now.

Jill has the most time to read and is a voracious reader. She can read 3 or 4 books a day when she's in the mood. It used to be cute to go to the library with her when she was only 7 and she would take out 25 books at a time. The librarian would day "are you sure you can read all those in two weeks?" And I would laugh because I knew they would be back before the end of the week.

I'll check into this book gifting. It sounds great. And yes, I'll tell them you referred me!

I would dearly love for more young people especially to read more.

Hugs

i am not gifting all my books, of course! but we all have some that ... well... we are done with, but you dont want to "throw away" (shudder)

its fun because if people find your books, and post you can "follow" your books around. and since some people post exactly where they are leaving a book, maybe one of your friends can go "catch one" for you, so you can tag and release it too...

i am heading to the local Goodwill tomorrow, to hunt their used books.... i usually dont, but now i have an excuse!

yes, i would hope it would interest more folks in reading. at the very least perhaps they will read something they wouldnt normally. maybe a different genre. or author...

just a note:
once you join let me know your user name, they have a friend link thingy....

for doing this on the cheap:
i followed the links to "labels" and many people have good labels you can print at home and cut out and stick in books.. plain paper...including the "original bookcrossing label" which i think is nice.... but you can also write the info on the book. i just think the paper labels look neater than my hand writing.

if you scrap book, you probably have glue that can be used to make "sticky notes". i do. anyway i am printing notes to stick on the front of books, cutting out hearts and stuff and using the sticky note glue to stick them to the front covers for "pick me up" "free book" "take me home" etc......
