The reason for the article now is that the penalty the restaurant group is being required to pay has just been settled. The breach is not recent. Obviously anyone who ate at those restaurants during the relevant period in 2009 should be concerned, but people who only ate there at Arisia 2011 (or Boskone in 2010) would not have been affected.
