i saw him once with his banjo on a comedy bit, but he wasnt really playing it seriously, just sort of strumming and then he would stop and 10 minutes of comedy etc, which just told me he knew how to hold it and play a little....not bad, but... i had no idea he was GOOD.
and i was usually at school or outside during sesame street, i missed a lot of it. saw "put down the ducky" though. good one that.
of course the muppet show was later, but my parents didnt watch it and we traveled.. i must have missed about half of them re runs were hard to get too
I had NO idea. This tugs a little at my heart strings since my recently deceased grandfather played the banjo, guitar, ukulele, piano, and organ, and was also *really* good.
I'm going to have to see if there are any CDs floating around that I can get my hands on. Thanks for posting.
he is considered one of the top folk banjo players out there. he is amazing and we saw him with alison kraus once as a surprise guest in champaign. amazing. alison and i had the same violin teacher as kids- talk about small world.

He also played banjo on both comedy albums (I think I played my copies to death) from the 70s.
