The music appreciation class should be a breeze, with your background! I took a music reading class in college that was probably the most useful class I ever took. I kind of knew how to read (left over from the year of piano lessons I took almost 40 years ago), but this explained it more.

*Before* winter starts..? o_O (Kit and I started debating about whether or not it was winter yet back at the start of October. The weather had turned, I didn't see it warming up again properly for more than the odd day at a time - it was winter!) ;-)

Although having classes finish at 10 isn't really fantastic, it does also mean that you could do a day mall show, so long as you could be packed up by 5 and weren't too far from your college (or had somebody to pack up for you), or even get a part time temping job, theoretically, Tuesdays to Thursdays (you'd be knackered by Friday, but if you knew it was only for a month or two, it might be doable).

Could it also possibly be the case that most of the people who picked those classes are mature students, who are mature in outlook as well as age, and funding a course they're really interested in and aren't, therefore, going to muck around, so that most lectures will finish early?

(And yay, grant!)

before winter QUARTER starts.... in my mind winter started in October, we had a brief respite, and now its back....

a LOT of the evening courses have a reputation for ending early, so yes i can hope

i doubt i will do any more mall shows. the hours are horrid (10 am to 9 pm every day) so even if it didn't conflict with school (and it would) i doubt i would do them.

but it does mean that i will have no issues with weekend events, which is what i was aiming for. its why i specifically asked to avoid any Friday classes. i would have liked to avoid Monday as well, but no such luck.

yes, theoretically i could get a temp job. i have no track record with them, so dont know how well that will work, but really should get my resume dusted off and see if it works

That makes more sense!

I guess if you plan on not getting out before 10, then if you do, it's a bonus?

Those are horrid hours :-/ I was thinking that they'd be more like setting up from 8 to sell from 8:45 to 5/5:30.

My understanding is that they can be a little bit soul-destroying (apparently people don't really talk to temps, and you get all the thankless grunt-work that doesn't require much training - things like filing and distributing post in an office), but that it's often easier to get temp work than something permanent. Hopefully with college and weekend events to break up your time, and the knowledge that it's not fun but it's good clean money in the bank, it won't even cause damage to your soul? :-)

i have worked in food service. my soul is not likely to be destroyed by mere temp jobs!

aka
"you can't scare me, i worked in fast food..."

yes, mall shows are HORRID and have not made me much money, so i have decided not to do any more. the general rule for a mall show is that your booth must be open "during mall hours" so as you can imagine if you are by yourself its. bad
