I've found WW to be particularly problematic about labeling. *sigh*

ARGH!

Worst part is, I don't get immediate reactions from aspartame, I get delayed reactions, wondering why the hell I feel like crap. So it's hard for me to tell if it's in something until later... So I can stupidly ingest a bunch without realizing it and then feel like garbage.

Assholes.

i have friends who are NOT phenylkenoturics, who have reacxtions ranging from asthma, to suicidal depression, with everything in between...... and if they react that way to Aspartame then they probably do to Neotame.

and most fo us use the phenylkenoturics warning to watch for it
and yes, it CAN be a delayed reaction, which makes figuring out what is wrong very difficult

Okay, silly question - why not just use regular sugar (or non-refined sugar in the raw) or honey?

Ah, understand completely. My doc says that artificial sweeteners like nutrasweet act like sugar with your metabolism anyway so it's best just to use a little sugar and not exclusively the artificial stuff. Of course, I am addicted to Diet Coke. :/

Sadly, as someone who is now being a LOT more aware of her salt intake, I'm finding the salt v. fat tradeoff in food to be highly unfair. Low fat = abnormally high salt. Low salt = high fat / sugar.

No sugar = sugar alternative. Usually something that will give me a headache after a period of time, or otherwise leave me feeling uneasy about the product label in general.

I am glad I am not in my mother's boat, but I have the utmost sympathy for her situation: High BP, diabetic. Can't have sugar, can't have salt, and I wouldn't trust sugar alternatives further than I could throw them. I can take my chances with real sugar. I don't think my mom can.

Thank you for warning me about Neotame.

Yeah, what the hell is it with adding sugar after you've already taken out salt??? If I wanted dessert, I wouldn't be shopping in the soup aisle...!
