I just got a book called "How to Cheat on Your Husband (In the Kitchen)". It's about being sneaky with vegetable purees. You add just enough of them to stuff that wouldn't normally have them to up the nutrient value without affecting the taste. There are some free recipes at her website www.sneakychef.com

Next event. I've been to NRWC twice and wasn't impressed with Merchant's row either time. Talk to Rosamund for more recent information, but I'd look into Atlantia (although ask Stitchwhich if she knows about the quality of merchanting there).

I can't speak to the merchants who'll be at Summer War -- I think this is a first time event, though the site has been used before.

As for the site... it is *rife* with ticks. There is plenty of shade, though not in the fighting area. Not sure how shade will coincide with where the merchants get placed.

I've had luck several times with converting a milk crate and bungee cords to perfectly functional, cheap baskets for bikes. That should save you a little $$.

No skimpy on the helmet though. I has spoken.

never skimpy on helmets.. ever.
may be able to work out milk crate bungee cord, may be able to find cheap baskets... we have many many bike shops here.

Kmart (or the like) has good helmets for <$20. Remember that it'll get replaced in about 2 years.

Ditto Kmart for the tire pumps. If you can, get the bike checked out by a reputable bike shop though, a check up at the local shop (for me) ran ~$150, and took 5 days, because they were busy, but my bike had been sitting in a cellar for 20 years. It needed a lot of stuff. See them about getting a speedometer/odometer. There's nothing like giving yourself a sense of accomplishment because you've cycled X miles this week.

This from experience/the local bike guys. Check the pressure on your tires and bring them up to pressure (on my old beast it's ~60 lbs) at least once a week. I have to do it for myself, and Himself.

If you have a back rack on your bike already, milk crates and bungees will make a rear basket. Once you have a basket you can leave a bike lock, tire pump etc in there and not have to worry about them.

thanks....
good to know KMAart has them, i dont usually see adult helmets in most stores, only juniors.

odometer is a good idea....
mine will need tire pressure, i know..

do not yet have rack, need rack....

I've found Northern Region Warcamp to be incredibly variable. that's why i don't bother doing it anymore. It was very rarely an excellent event and more often than not a dissapointment merchantwise. Of course you may get differnet resuilts, but i just figured i'd put in my .02.

sigh
i may just try to do something else....
ticks? or poor sales? i dont like either option.

Yeah. I understand. And the other problem with NRWC is the fact that becaus it's up near Lake George on July 4th weekend the traffic is HORRENDOUS no matter what. The combination of almost reliably poor sales and horrendous traffic for an event that was 5 hours away (Without traffic) just didn't work for me.
