What IS IT with event planners who don't look at the whole picture and see that the health of the dealers depends on their ability to make money at their event?
i dont know. i mean i know its a new site and they were a bit.. uh...... they were having a tough time. they are used to being at SUNY stony brook, where all the major stuff but filking is in on the one campus. apparently this place couldn't/wouldn't? let them use more of the campus.. so we had the gym (dealers, a few speeches, some small number of panels) and then TWO hotels.. one had most of the panels and events, the other had a few only...
since every single dealer told them this was "not good" they started beginning all dealer conversations with "we are working on getting the panels on to this site"
i think they knew it was not good... but i doubt they knew HOW not good.
the table fees are very high for the number of customers/attendees in any case, so if a lot fo those attendees cannot shop, or only come shop on one day or for a short time, its bad.
Are you sure they're trying to get all the panels onto the same site as the dealers room? My impression was that they were trying to get all the panels into one hotel-- I hope it's the closer one.
it seemed to depend on who you talked to.... i know they were trying to get away from the split hotel issue...... but the Dealers folks had so many dealers yipping, that they said they would be trying to get more of the convention on the same site as the dealers.
