Just got back from the National Portrait Gallery, where Zilly Rosen (the woman who made the cupcake mosaic of Obama) made a mosaic of Obama and Lincoln from 5,600 cupcakes! It her crew of about 7 right around 4 hours to assemble.
Oh man, I saw that was going on and I should have gone! This is way better than the original Obama-cake portrait. Burning question: After putting it together, did spectators get to take it apart by, you know, eating the cupcakes?!?
Presumptuous and kind of disgusting was my reaction.
Now, I can value the artistic value of it, of course. But the Obama-Lincoln comparisons are such bullshit that it mkes my blood boil. Maybe Obama will be a great, historically revered president, but at this point it's asinine to make such suggestions.
Personally I think he's a lot more akin to Kennedy, who is also a revered figure in American politics, so I don't know why the obsession with comparing him to Lincoln (...has Obama freed anybody yet? Been tasked with holding together a country when someone secedes every week? Not so much), but either way...it's 5,600 cupcakes!
