I've been reveling in the fact that I no longer live in D.C., so I don't have to deal with all of that bullshit. I've been asked a number of times if I'm going to come back for it, and my immediate response is always "HELL! NO!"
The thing is, I'm no more excited about this inauguration than about any other. To me it's not a giant historic event - it's worth cheering about because he's a Democrat, mostly I'm just happy that Bush will be gone. I get why people do feel strongly about it, and I can imagine my reaction if an openly-gay president were to be elected when I'm, y'know, 50, but to me this isn't a major historical moment. Kind of like I never grew up thinking a woman couldn't be president, I never grew up particularly feeling that a president had to be white, and I feel kind of like an ass going and taking up more space when other people who do care are already squashed like sardines
