Viking Age Dyestuffs: shows a list of dyes identified. Wool was dyed, linen left natural or bleached. Colors include purple, red, blue, green, and yellow. There seems to be a bit of regional preference in colors. Sources are listed at the bottom of the page.

I do know that some of the plants listed will make different colors depending on the mordant used. For instance...madder will make orange or different shades of red.
Woad is blue.
I believe Weld is yellow.
Indigo is blue (as stail urine is used to set the color.)
Walnut would be browns.

The yellow X could very well be yarrow or goldenrod. A root or even a bark. Nettles with copper as a modifyer. Im surprised the article doesnt pick up on loosestrife.
PH can change color to which very well could have been Vinegar.
As far as Lichens go I have dyed with them I get mine from the Appalachians.
I do not have time right now to go further, My printer broke down today while trying to finalize MUCH paperwork for end of year and close of Bizznizz clients. Bad karma day.
