Tagging My Icons
I'm tagging all my icons with a discreet watermark of my user name. I wish I didn't have to take such a drastic step, but the icon thievery was driving me completely insane. Not only were my icons being passed far and wide uncredited at Xanga and other sites, but the hotlinking was completely out of hand. Tagging all my icons with my name is the best solution I've found that works for me.
Since I've started tagging my work, I've noticed a signifigant reduction of theft and hotlinking. I've also received lots of positive feedback, and several of my tagged icon have won awards as well. I feel that these results far outweigh the few negative comments I've received. I wish everyone could be happy with my decision, but that isn't possible. Let me just say, if you prefer your icons untagged, please by all means, go to another icon maker who doesn't do so, there are lots of them out there. However, if you don't like that I tag my icons, please don't try to convince me that I'm "ruining" my icons, or expect to enlighten me on how "distracting" the tags are. Frankly, I don't feel that way. My watermarks are discreet, and there are valid reasons behind my decision. It's my icon work, and my choice to make. That being said, please do not remove my tags from my icons. Thank you.
