I was wondering... How many of you have dealt with the inability to remember something important

I lost about a month's worth of memories, right before I woke up here.

He wasn't really expecting Rui of all people to respond, though. She didn't seem like someone who had to deal with something like this in the past... but then again, he still doesn't know her that well.]
I see... Do you know why you might have lost them, Rui? [While it's not as bad as multiple years, suddenly forgetting a month's worth of memories is still a lot... and it's not that common, either.]

[She pauses, unsure. These are all guesses based on what she'd seen, what she knew of him. And... it's hard to think of it. She misses him. She misses all of her friends from Kisaragi, now more than ever.]
His job was over, once the danger passed. So he- or someone, I don't know- made everyone forget. Like the danger never existed, and he never came to live with us at all. I don't know how they did it, but everyone forgot.

If it was as bad as you say, then maybe he thought that if you forgot, you wouldn't worry about what happened. [Some people cope badly with situations like that, after all. Or maybe he didn't want them to worry about him. If it really was his job to save everyone, it's possible that he was going to do the same elsewhere and didn't want the people he knew to follow him and put themselves into danger. It's just a guess, and he can't really back it up, but... if it's something like that, Joshua could easily understand. He'd probably do the same thing if he was able to do so in a situation like that.]
But if you can tell me what happened now... Does that mean that you managed to remember? [That seems like the most likely option, at least...]

..."Boobie Lady"...?]
...I guess it counts if you pay attention when she's teaching you. [If she doesn't actually listen, then it's probably not an example. If she does... it could be an actual issue with her memory.]

[And by sometimes, she means 5% of the time.]

Sometimes...? Are you sure you're not forgetting what she teaches you because you're not actually listening to her? [Because it's starting to sound more and more like it's that, rather than a problem with her memory.]

But if you don't mind me asking, why do you think it's complicated? Does it have to do with how your world works? [Since someone else already mentioned that, and he would definitely consider that a valid reason for referring to his situation as complicated.]

You're not human? [He doesn't sound bothered by that - just surprised. Sure, he'd heard about non-humans being here, but... he still hadn't actually encountered one, as far as he's aware.]
