I like em both the same. Some people like shadows better cause pigments can be hard to work with if you're not used to them, they tend to be messy for newbies. But I like both, have plenty of both and don't notice myself really favoring one over the other when I'm reaching for eye makeup.
I don't really like most of MAC eyeshadows. Well, rather, this is how I got into MAC, after buying one eyeshadow, it was SO much better than anything else I'd used before. But then I discovered pigments and I haven't touched most of my eyeshadows since :-) I only use neutral-ish eyeshadows now, if I want to do anything brighter or just with more color, it's definitely pigments. A 5g sample jar full of pigment will last you a LONG time, and it's cheaper than eyeshadows. Much better color payoff, blends a lot better, etc. I'm basically over MAC eyeshadows.
If you want high-quality, pigmented pressed shadows, I suggest Make Up Forever or, for a cheaper deal, Ben Nye.
I'm relatively new to shadows and pigments. I have done some OK looks far, and my blending is getting better. But what brushes would you recommend for someone wanting to try some pigments out for the first time?
I am not into their shadows as much as their pigments. The pigments are more versatile. However certain shades of theirs don't show well on me. So it really varies.
I prefer my NARS and Sephora eyeshadows to my MAC. They just show up and blend better.
I always go for the pigments first. If I don't have the color I'm looking for, then I go for the eyeshadow color. However, that's because it's harder to get to my palettes that my e/s samples. If it weren't for that I would go for each equally, but pigments are just "slightly" better and cheaper and more versatile!
I like both, I have equal amounts of eyeshadow and pigments. It depends what purpose I use them for I suppose. I use their shadows on a daily basis and I incorporate dry pigment to finish off a look. The cool thing about pigments is I can use them to make super bright liners when wet and as shimmery blush too. A lot of the time I prefer the shadows over the pigments because they're easier to control whereas I get annoyed at loose pigment sometimes.
