I'm Not Ready

Aug 08, 2006 12:04

And I don't think I ever will be ready to see the latest trend in movies related to 9/11. This morning my co-irkers were talking about the "World Trade Center" movie with Nicolas Cage. No bad-vibes to them (seriously, I mean no meanness here), but I really don't want to hear about it. I had to put on my headphones and listen to my iTunes at my desk ( Read more... )

my two cents... alannakitty August 8 2006, 17:48:20 UTC
First, I want to say that I totally agree with you. 9/11 is something that I never want to be desensitized to. While I agree that the movie industry is prone to take a tragdy and run with it. I'm not sure that this movie was meant to be "entertaining". Everyone grieves in their own way(s) and for some people they want to to be reminded and see the images so that they "won't" forget. Personally, I'm not one of them.

I think we are in complete agreeance here. I put the word "entertaining" in quotes purposefully; I also don't think this movie was meant to be fun to watch. Just wanted to make that clear. :)

Here's to not seeing the films.

Linda, angry? You're to sweet for that. :)

I agree with you that the movie was not meant to be fun to watch (see comment above about the quotes around "entertaining"). And like I said, I respect everyone's need/desire to see any 9/11 related things. It's just not for ME. And I hardly think anyone is detached from the event, whether they knew someone involved directly or not-it was a shock to our country and our brothers and sisters were in need. (Gawd, that sounded so patriotic!)

No meanness, remember? :)

i agree with the others - it is probably not meant as "entertainment" as much as a memorial of sorts - a "true" relation of the story. only those involved could ever tell us how true it is...

as such, i'm still not terribly not interested in seeing it. i didn't know anyone directly involved in the situation (in any state - except tim saw the paragon thing...) so i'm not so emotionally attached to it. i don't see many movies anyway, but that's not one i'm rushing out to see.

still have not seen clerks II though! i wanna see that one...

yeah 9/11 is one of those things on the list of stuff i just won't talk about anymore...that day messed me up more than i could ever explain, and i invariably return to that place when people start talking about it...and then i usually get really, really angry, which is something i don't think anyone really wants to see

people need to remember that some things should just stay private

Well, in defense of the argument about grieving, I agree that everyone grieves differently (duh). I guess what I am so upset about is that we (we being the "don't want to see it" grievers) are, in a way, forced to a degree, to "grieve"/ face an onslaught of those images on a daily basis. All because some hollywood big shot is making a buck; or 'providing a way for people to grieve'. It's just not fair to people like us is all.

No meanness to anyone. Really. :)
Love all around. :)

Thanks for your input.
So, you gonna see Clerks II?
