You can port over the entirely of your LJ to Dreamwidth, tags, security, comments, and all, and it's possible to mirror entries on both sites.

Why the desire to leave lj? This incident sounds far more like idiocy than malice.

Because, most likely, lj had had a series of idiocy/malice incidents, and each one flares up and is really annoying, and then you get some sort of resolution, and you move on.

And at one point you just think - maybe my life would be nicer if I didn't have to keep putting up with lj doing something stupid again? And you move.

Personally, I've got my blog working on my own website (www.jcfiala.net) and set up a process that copies my blog posts here for my friends to find more easily. That way, I control my information, and also help to make my own website easier to find, since each post on lj links back to my site.
