I found the image/picture and fell in love. It inspired the piece, among other secondary things.

I found something beautiful in her wounded back with no wings -- something entirely human and breathtaking.

I loved this yesterday when I read it. I was caught up in my own brain and didn't comment then. The picture is so very stark. I wanted to hate it, visceral reaction and all, but the poem was such a balm.

I'm glad you found the poem a balm. Honestly, this picture caught and compelled me -- I wanted to nurture the woman. Just a strong, instinctual reaction. :)
