Those of you who create fanworks, what types of mediums have you explored during your time in fandom? Writing, art, vidding, podficcing, cosplay, etc? I'd love to hear what you've experimented with and what you've enjoyed the most.
I haven't really created anything for some time but 5+ years ago I was into *everything* seemingly. It started with fanfiction (BtVS, Angel then Ashes to Ashes fandom) but I also made a *lot* of icons, banners, fan art etc. I also RP'd into the Angel fandom but had this horrible RP partner who just destroyed my confidence so I haven't had the courage to try it again since...
Me too, I was into almost everything, especially in Hey Arnold fandom and a bit in Harry Potter. RP-ing is one of the things I haven't tried though. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! :(
RP-ing is fun while it works but my RP partner was very critical of my writing and it knocked my confidence. Maybe one day I'd like to go back to it? I'm not sure... talking to you made me look up some of my old work actually, it made me slightly nostalgic I won't lie!
Hey! It's nice to see you 'round these parts again! I hope you've had a wonderful holiday season and that 2014 brings all good things for you.
So much love for that gif.
Regarding your question about fanworks: I've enjoyed fics, artwork, icons and vids. I never explored podfics, likewise cosplay and role-playing games. I've only written fics (though vidding is intriguing and I might have to branch out - I'd need to get the right programs for it though).
Also, I happened to find your twitter on the same night I was watching the 'Benchwarmer' episode (they were playing it on Teen Nick). So the "always passes the ball to Tucker" really made me laugh.
I know, I've been letting myself stray away a bit from fandom/LJ. I think I've just got to find my niches again. I hope you have a nice New Year!
Vidding appeals to me on a lot of levels. For one, it sounds like a great way to revisit things that I love but maybe haven't been able to fannishly revisit otherwise--namely Xena, for me, which I've never felt inspired to write fic for, for some reason. And I love the idea of matching music to certain characters and themes. Also with shows like Xena and Merlin, the lack of costume changes makes it extra easy to completely construct your own narratives, which might be fun to experiment with... yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot. :) I have an older video editing program I think will work... hopefully. I'd need another external hard drive though, because I am maxed out and I know video editing takes up loads of space.
Yay random Hey Arnold references! They are the funniest.
I have enjoyed so many fandom vids. Matching music to characters and themes is great and a neat challenge. Also getting the timing right - film editing is in and of itself an art.
I've been more active on dreamwidth lately than on LJ. I still hang out on LJ but a lot of my communities here are either closing or inactive. Dreamwidth is much more active now, particularly fandomwise (also tumblr - although I find tumblr to be a bit too one-sided, even though there is some great stuff there).
Random Hey Arnold references are definitely the best.
