Title: Have Some Faith
Fandom: Ace Attorney series
Character/Pairing: Miles Edgeworth/Maya Fey
Rating: PG
Summary: They wanted to change their fear-based relationship to something greater.
Author's Notes: My ancient claim for
1sentence. I don't really ship it that much anymore, but I didn't want to drop the claim, so I went ahead and did it anyway. I have another one for Daryan/Pearl. *shot*
01. Ring
Although Maya Fey seems like the kind of girl who doesn’t concern herself much with men, she does indeed dream of the day a man will slip a ring on her finger.
02. Hero
He keeps telling her that he’s no hero, that she shouldn’t look at him in the light that she does, but she simply won’t listen.
03. Memory
If they have anything-anything at all-in common, it’s that their memories still haunt them.
04. Box
When he finds a box outside of his apartment on his birthday-which no one remembers anyway, he quirks an eyebrow before reading a note with familiar handwriting: “I remember you saying one time that you wanted this.”
05. Run
There are times where he wishes she would just run to him when she needs help or support instead of Wright.
06. Hurricane
If there’s still a moment that sticks out in his pitiful life, it’s the time he was trapped in Maya’s apartment during the worst hurricane he had ever seen.
07. Wings
She really doesn’t see how much potential she has to do anything she wants; someday she’ll spread her wings and fly away from Phoenix’s shelter.
08. Cold
She always avoided him because she was almost certain that he hated her, the way his cold stare always seemed to settle on her more than anyone else.
09. Red
He can’t tell whether she interprets his looks as hateful or neutral, but the reddening of her cheeks painfully tells him that it’s the former.
10. Drink
She’s dignified enough to abstain from torturing him about the time he had gotten drunk and made a pass on Phoenix.
11. Midnight
They walk home together after a New Year’s party, and they make small chat like most people do, only because they don’t have the courage to do anything, even after midnight.
12. Temptation
The money that came with being his partner was tempting, to be sure, but he knew that he really didn’t have anything that she wanted.
13. View
It only takes a few of her words here and there-maybe just an irrelevant comment or remark-to make him look at the world in a slightly more positive way.
14. Music
When people ask her how she became interested in classical music, she always comes up with a convenient lie to cover up the truth; she just wanted to impress him for once.
15. Silk
As he runs a hand through her hair, he’s surprised at how incredibly soft and smooth it is; her hair tends to look frizzy most of the time.
16. Cover
The bitter aftertaste that the events of Hazakurain left in her mouth led her to develop a cover for herself, a form of protection; she just can’t protect herself from him.
17. Promise
“I’ll come back,” he promises quietly, but when he looks in her eyes he knows that she doesn’t believe him.
18. Dream
She doesn’t know why he appears in her dreams more than Phoenix-he’s almost a stranger to her.
19. Candle
He may not believe in the whole concept of lighting candles and praying for someone, but she does; what she’ll never tell him, though, is that it’s mostly for him.
20. Talent
She sometimes lets it slip that she wishes that she had his natural talent at anything at all, because it certainly doesn’t lie in spirit channeling; she pretends to understand when he says that her personality in itself is a talent.
21. Silence
She finds that the most important things that she could ever say to him are better conveyed with silence.
22. Journey
He honestly doesn’t know where he’s going to end up in life, but he’d like it if it ended up with her.
23. Fire
He can’t fathom what she must have felt when she caught a glimpse of that burning bridge, and he knows it’s better to simply listen than try to falsely empathize.
24. Strength
She never thought of herself as strong; if anything, it was him who had strength and not her, but she couldn’t help but feel a little prideful when he admitted that he wasn’t as strong as she thought he was.
25. Mask
All her life, she had been surrounded by deception and lies, and you would’ve thought that she wouldn’t trust a soul now, but she does, and it’s hard to put a bar on how much he respects her for that.
26. Ice
Sometimes she just doesn’t respond when he says anything to her, and he can feel that wall of ice again; it’s been coming up so much lately that he feels helpless against it.
27. Fall
He wasn’t there to break any of her falls, to stop her crying or comfort her from the fears that dominated her life; that job seemed to belong to Wright, and he’ll never forgive himself for it.
28. Forgotten
It’s absolutely heart-wrenching to watch her have to try twice as hard as anybody else just so that she wouldn’t be forgotten amongst the crowd.
29. Dance
He’s utterly shocked to find that she’s actually just a wallflower, hands folded behind her back, eyes following Phoenix as he laughs and dances with Iris.
30. Body
No, really-he never noticed how curvaceous her body was underneath those robes.
31. Sacred
Everything that she feels is sacred, he thinks it ridiculous.
32. Farewells
It hurts a little to leave everything behind, but it hurts more to know that she will likely never care.
33. World
The world isn’t a pleasant place for her, but he hopes to amend that sometime in the future.
34. Formal
She can’t remember when their conversations turned from curt and formal to more relaxed, but she decides that it’s the end result that matters more.
35. Fever
When Phoenix had been stuck in the hospital, he was there for him and she wasn’t; no matter what he says, she won’t forgive herself for that.
36. Laugh
She’ll never know that he’s unconsciously trying to make her laugh, because he knows that she needs it more than anything else.
37. Lies
She thinks that he’s good at seeing through her own lies, but she’ll keep it a secret that he’s open like a book, too.
38. Forever
Forever doesn’t exist in their worlds, but they’re just fine with that.
39. Overwhelmed
When she pleads that she needs him to understand where she’s coming from when she says she’s overwhelmed, he can sense the hysterics that are laced in her voice, and he has to promise himself from telling her the truth.
40. Whisper
She’s never quiet, and sometimes he whispers just to make a subtle jab at her personality.
41. Wait
When he says that maybe they should wait before pursuing anything further, she agrees with him; this tells him all he needs to know.
42. Talk
He’s not the best person to confide in, but she figures she has to reciprocate the things he’s done for her.
43. Search
He doesn’t understand why-he should’ve seen this coming-but something in him shifts when she says that he’s what she’s been searching for all this time.
44. Hope
She’ll try to teach him the fine art of hope.
45. Eclipse
There have always been the dark points in their lives, but they’ve always passed, she assures him.
46. Gravity
Gravity’s so strong; she’s somewhat sure that it’s responsible for her falling so fast for him.
47. Highway
He drives down highways; she runs down them.
48. Unknown
The unknown was always terrifying to him, but the one thing he does know about her is that she’s not dangerous; maybe he can spare a chance this time.
49. Lock
Sometimes, locks don’t have a key, and it’s up to that person to destroy them altogether; she’s scared to do this, but she has to risk it.
50. Breathe
Miles Edgeworth firmly believes that he has never wasted a breath in the presence of Maya Fey; although, he does wish he used it in wiser ways.
Title: Lest You Become One
Fandom: Ace Attorney series
Character/Pairing: Phoenix Wright, with mentions of Kristoph Gavin
Rating: PG
Summary: In wanting revenge, he had become the very person he hated.
Author's Notes: Written for
mission_insane , with the prompt being the quote under the cut.
“Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.”
-Friedrich Nietzsche
Phoenix Wright still considered himself a person who stood for justice. He refused to let Kristoph take that trait away from him as he reaped the benefits of his barring. Oh yes, Phoenix did see beyond that ‘friendly’ smile, but nobody else did. Apollo didn’t, at least. But he couldn’t blame the young lawyer; Gavin was a very convincing actor. Only a keen eye would be able to catch the act and see the script that ran behind his glazed eyes.
But there was something else, too. Phoenix knew that Kristoph was not the only one to blame.
Even though he went about his life as usual, he could feel the relentless darkness trying to consume him-the twilight of cold-hearted revenge. Phoenix would freely admit to himself that he’d have his revenge on Kristoph at any turn, no matter what it would take. Few things had taken priority over that task. Only Trucy and finding the means to survive and give his daughter the things he never had were above it.
But he wasn’t about to admit to himself that in the back of his mind, he knew that he’d become exactly like Kristoph if he continued on this path. Maybe not as crazy, of course, but altogether sharing the same principles. Under the clever guise of ‘justice,’ Phoenix would continue drawing up the perfect revenge. And the guilt he would feel would be a small price to pay.
