To be honest, I don't blame him for his somewhat jaundiced view of fanfiction, since Caitlin Moran had him and Martin Freeman read excerpts of some of the worst examples aloud at an event at the BFI!

Caitlin Moran was way out of line, that whole thing made me so cross. But it's not really that he has a jaundiced view of fanfic, it's more that he has a horribly stereotyped and basically ignorant idea about it, and tends to sound off anyway. I suspect he has a problem with off-the-cuff responses to the media, his public relations droids probably despair :>.

But the subtext I'm getting from the Out article on fic is actually vaguely Victorian: not not only how dare all these women write erotic fanfic about me, but how dare all these women be so volubly enthusiastic about sex. The hussies.

I wouldn't wear a t-shirt which read LUSTFUL COCK MONSTER, but I might wear one that read "SHAMELESS HUSSY".
