Thought for the day: dear spammer, if your email has a subject line which reads "PLS OPEN YOUR ATTARCHMENT AND FEW YOUR WINNING PROCEDURE" it is so utterly doomed before it starts that it's causing me actual pain to contemplate the mere fact of your existence. I also thoroughly enjoyed The Hangover. I knew I would, though, because I had heard that my grade 5 teacher was horrified by it, and had called it "gratuitously disgusting". :).

No, see, that's the point, it's almost gratuitously disgusting at frequent intervals, and you ride the wave of relief into actual enjoyment. But, yes, anything that horrifies your Grade 5 teacher is probably worth seeing on general principles.

Ha! Spreading the Shaun Tan love, makes me feel less bad about getting a duplicate prezzie (I warned the man I was getting it, too!). I have The Red Tree, too, should you want to borrow it.

I'm eagerly awaiting the animated short. It will rock (if Tan's production page and Tom Bryant's previous work is anything to go by.

I actually love getting duplicate books for presents, you then have one copy given to you completely independently by two separate people, and can spread the love by passing on the second copy to someone deserving. The secret is to shuffle the two copies before you keep/distribute, so you can say "Yours!" triumphantly when either donor asks you which one you kept.
