One of the things I love about Kate Atkinson's recent books is that they take the crime genre and give a big fat shrug about what you're supposed to be reading them for. Yes, there's a crime (or many), yes, you eventually find out who did what, but really that's almost incidental, and definitely lacking in realism. What larks.
