librsa bought me The Dangerous Alphabet, which is by Neil Gaiman with illustrations by Gris Grimly. librsa's superhero powers are Confusing Fog of Non-Sequitur, and Perfectly Chosen Gifts. Dangerous Alphabet introduces itself thusly:

Also, Back-crunching Hug-lifts. Possibly only a superpower if you happen to like them. I don't, many of our friends do. I have given away all my tokens.

I'm a bit ambivalent about them these days, since I have a non-functional elbow - while I appreciate the sensation of the spine unlocking and flexing in a sinuous and serpentine fashion, I'm always afraid my unanchored arm-bones will come shooting out the tip of my elbow in a manner horribly reminiscent of David Cronenberg.

It has been pointed out that it looks like I don't like librsa's hugs. I do, a lot. They are the best hugs in the world. That's most of the reason we are together. It's just the ones where he lifts you up and crunches your back that I don't like.
