written in pain, written in awe

Whee! I just pressed "Send" on the email with zip file attachment which sent this book thing, in Positively! Its! Last! Appearance!, off to Michigan. I technically finished the updates this weekend, but I've spent the last few days suffering from the nit-picky polishing impulse which is basically a delaying tactic as I can't bear to send the child ( Read more... )

Yay book!

Hmm, interesting parallel drawn between sending a publication off and sending a child out. I am inured to unbrushed hair and chocolate stains by this time, so perhaps this means I'll send more papers out, since I'll be happy with less than perfection?
Seeing as my attempts at perfection were rejected, though, this path might not be a productive one to walk down.

I think you need to think of them as grubby children, whose essential beauty and lovableness nonetheless shines through :>. The trick is to convince one's perfectionist self of same. Mantra: "my child is beautiful!", which is mercifully not the same as "my child is perfect!" I'm learning this, slowly. Mostly because the two years of revision process has taught me one hell of a lot about removing chocolate stains.

I look forward to your views on the movie. I rather liked it (Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman duet!) but apparently the musical on which it is based is a horrible romanticised version of the original story (which I'd like to read sometime). But still, it's actually very comical in places and the songs are catchy. I find myself singing "the wooooorst pies in Loooooondon" randomly.

My brother saw the stage musical in New York and says the film is very true to it. His only probalem with it was that the best song, in his opinion, did not make it across to the film. It is sung by a narrator, I understand, which role is not present in the film.

I do a happy little dance -
vicarious, allegorical -
for joyous news of sending forth
your child metaphorical.
