If Joe Mazzello doesn't get an Emmy, there is no justice in the world. I feel really tooly saying this, but his performance is nothing short of astonishing. And I'm with you on the focus: I've been so incredibly moved by the last three episodes. It does feel like they're trying to squash three entirely different movies into one miniseries, and while I adore Basilone's (and think I'd be more amenable to the tragedy of Leckie's if the framing had been different), it's Sledge who gets me where I live.

Ohmygod, the pebbles. He describes that in "The Good War," and I was flipping out watching it play out onscreen. Bad germs. Jesus Christ.

OHHHHHHHH, that's where I read the pebbles bit! Right! God, so disturbing. And in the book he describes how Snafu wasn't being cruel or malicious, just kind of... doing it, as something to occupy himself. Yet SO CREEPY. They portrayed that very well.

I completely agree on the Joe for an Emmy vote. He's unbelievable, and I told him as much. :)

I have one question for Spanks. WHY couldn't they have started it off with Sledge and the emotional connection?! It would've been a fitting full series companion to BoB instead of the mishmash disconnect we have instead.
