Oh, honey, I'm sorry things are so stressful for you right now! Maybe you should take a little time off from thinking about this right now, and come back when you have a clearer head. Like you said, it is only September; you have plenty of time.
And don't think about financing right now either, seriously. There are always scholarships and grants you can apply for, so don't let that kind of thing add to your stress level. You are super-smart and have excellent grades, so you'll be fine, you really will!
Have you checked out any chemistry-related grad programs in Ireland? That might be something to think about, even if it's not in Dublin itself.
If you need to talk about anything, I'm here for you!
*hugs* There are ways to pay for school, if that ends up being what you want to do. My parent's aren't supporting me financially anymore, and through a combination of loans and scholarships I'm okay. In the sciences, I think it's easier to get grants too. (Or this is what I have heard, having no experiences with the sciences myself).
There are ways to support yourself if going back to school is *not* what you want to do right away - and there's no shame in taking some time off in between undergrad and grad school if you need a breather. Lots of people do.
I do want to echo what chaneen said above - what about programs in Ireland? Do you think that would be an option for you. It *is* only September and you do have time to make a decision, but as much as you loved it and if that's the one thing you're sure of, then I think it makes a lot of sense to look into options that would let you be there.
Good luck! And give yourself some time. *hugs again*
Dude, I spend so much time freaking out about my future, seriously. Senior year is so difficult. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO GRADUATING, SORRY.
I'm just trying to take it slow, you know? Worst case, I get a job and work until I figure out what I want to do. We have time!
And seriously, seriously, I feel you on returning to the UK. I want to go back to London so badly. I know we've talked about this, but, yes. It totally bears repeating.
You should NEVER feel bad about stressing so much over going back there.
I friended you back when you were still in Dublin and I remember how happy you seemed, how your entries were about being somewhere you felt you BELONGED.
When you find a place like that, holy hell, baby...you SHOULD be wanting to get back there, to be somewhere you know you'll be happied than where you are now.
First things first, I'm for the dublin plan. I think that everyone needs some time off before grad school, and this seems like a good idea to me. And at the same time, you can fart around and see what the options are for grad school in ireland if you wanted.
Next, don't fret about support and grad school -- most grad programs will have stipends to support you and waive all fees through grants and what have you. If you have student loans, those will be deferred during that time. Now, that said, this may mean you can't go to school in some super expensive area unless you are willing to chance looking for roomies on craiglist or what have you because even the stipends make making ends meet in cali, boston, or ny a bit hard.
