Oh my god, I AM OVERCOME. I just finished watching the three part Farscape episode, Look at the Princess, eps 11-13 of season 2. And I just. WOW. ( Brief spoilers, with visual aids )
Be wary that there is a little fourth season slump, but I think it works out okay in the end. I think it's better to be prepared for that, though. YAY! Farscape!
I'm four episodes into SGA. It's...interesting. Not much substance yet, which means I should stop looking for it and be pleasantly surprised if/when it shows up. But that wasn't why I commented.
The producers of SG1 and SGA originally wanted John Sheppard to be played by Ben Browder. DISCUSS.
SGA gives me JOY. Not thinky thoughts, not melancholia, but JOY. Sheer, unadulterated joy. I've started the series over with my best friend, and you're right - there isn't substance. It's all about the sheer awesome that is John Sheppard, the adorkable unique brand of geek that is Rodney McKay, and just all the cracktastic trappings of a sci-fi show that doesn't often take itself all that seriously. It goes deeper than the surface sometimes, don't worry, but not always by any means.
Oh, wow! I think I have heard that somewhere. He would have been a completely different Shep! Ben is hot and goofy, same as Joe, but Joe's just... got this California laziness to him, the drawl, the eyebrows, the slouch, and also a reserve, a veiled hostility hovering just beneath the surface. Ben is just... not that! Wow. It's hard to imagine SGA with him. And there probably wouldn't be McShep! *flailyhands* Thank god for Joe *clings*
This will be a good summer show for me, I can tell. No thinking required.
I still haven't gotten over his utter goofiness. I wasn't expecting him to be that much of a dork. And then on top of that he's got this accent which in most places wouldn't be an accent at all, but since everyone else is Canadian he sounds positively Southern sometimes and it makes me laugh.
I think Ben as Sheppard would have been even weirder since the role at the beginning is a lot like Crichton, and Ben hadn't even finished Farscape when SGA started (that's why he didn't get the part). It was weird enough for most Farscape fans to see him and Claudia on SG1 even with different characters, especially since there used to be a kind of rivalry between the two shows. I mean, imagine if Supernatural ended after four seasons (gasp!) and Jensen and Jared BOTH went over to Smallville and played different characters. The mind boggles.
I forgot to say, my flatmate's started watching BSG and got me on the bandwagon and I now know who this Kara and Lee is and I ADORE THEM. Although when I first saw them together I totally had a thing for Cheif/Lee XD Don't hurt me! So basically I'm trading my John and Aeryn for your Kara and Lee! ♥
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! KARA AND LEE ARE SO MUCH TRUE LOVE I CAN'T STAND IT!! Oh god you just WAIT babygirl, you just wait. They... they...!!!! *vibrates with love* YAAAAAAAY! WELCOME TO THE FOLD, MY LOVE! *glompsnuggles*
