Opening the door that lead into the rooftop, Ran was met with a cool breeze. For all it was worth, it was a good day to do things outdoors like play frisbee or having a picnic.

Sighing a little, she straightened her uniform skirt a little before actually stepping outside. She hated the thing so much... Looking all preppy like some snobby rich girl. Then again, they were staying at a boarding school.

"Hi." She walked over to him, carrying a giant pool noodle until she threw it down in front of herself. He was going to ask her about it, wasn't he? All she could now was wait for it.

Setting the spoon down on the container, she looked at him. "I know what you mean. It's pointless, isn't it?"

"Well, I guess you could say that." He wasn't a big fan of the word pointless, given how many times the notion had come up during the murder case. Nothing was pointless, but some things were unnecessary.

"I did take a few things with me off the train, though. Been keeping 'em in my dorm room."

Her thoughts were temporarily discarded over curiosity to what just said. "What things?"

"Oh. Well, uh..." He starts going though his coat, as if looking for something. "I know I had it here somewhere. Lemme show it to ya."

Waiting for him to find it, she took a few more bites of the casserole.

He eventually found what he was looking for and pulled it out. It was a small plush doll, shaped like a puppy. It had some feminine clothes on, including a purple top and a flower-print hat, and even sported a fabricated pair of glasses.

"Here, this is... well, it's for you. So take it, okay?"

Carefully, she took it from him, examining the pup soon after. So he ended up doing it after all. She had never seen any of the supposed dolls Kanji would make and she was surprised by how elaborate it actually was. "Ahh! You even gave her glasses!"

He had even remembered that detail. Not that it would have been too hard, given how obvious her love for glasses was. Regardless, it was a nice gesture on his part. Holding it close to her chest, she looked up at him. "Thank you."

"Don't worry about it. You knew I was making it, anyway." Kanji looked away, with a hint of redness in his cheeks. This was more or less how he saw it playing out in his head, so he was definitely satisfied.

Scooting over closer to him, she peered over to the side to look at him better. "Kanji?" whispered Ran, still hugging her plush closely against herself.

The fact that she was whispering had Kanji feeling a little tense. Not in a bad way, but still. "Y-yeah?" He asked her to continue.

She stopped, unsure of what to really say or do next. It wasn't that she was shy exactly. This was something that she was new to. Signy had always been the more 'touchy-feely' one in their duo, so she always made any moves whenever the time called for it (or didn't..).

Ran stared down at the plushie, smiling somewhat sadly at it. If only circumstances could be different, right, she silently asked it. All she could do at this point was enjoy what time she had left to do...this sort of thing.

Uh oh. She wasn't saying anything. Watching her hold the doll in silence had Kanji worried. She was acting like a little girl who had gone through something bad. Maybe she used to have a dog, and it died when she was a kid?

"Hey, Ran... you okay?"

Glancing over at him, she felt her smile widen just a tad. Setting the puppy down on the opposite side to them, she rose her arms and slowly wrapped them around his waist, settling into an embrace. A pink tint colored her cheeks as she pressed herself against him, her head resting on his chest.

Kanji was very surprised by this new action. He was not sure how to respond at all. Sure, he was definitely enjoying it, but what was he supposed to do about it? After a long period of hesitation, he figured he would go with what seemed to be the proper thing to do.

He slowly put a hand on her shoulder and held it there for a while.
