The One with the Date

Summary: Madarame nervously awaits for the arrival of Tsuuma for their first outing together.

Tsuuma had gotten the note, and was rather glad for it. Teaching was not as enjoyable as planned and she needed some time away from it. So she had changed out of her suit and back into her regular dress and had headed to the cafeteria.

She stepped in and looked around, quickly spotting the table he'd set up. She smiled and walked over. She didn't mind that it wasn't something overly elaborate and fancy. She'd had that her entire life and she was a bit more fond of things like this that were more simple.

"Good evening, Madarame-san."

Tsuuma hadn't known about much of any of that. Not that she had any idea what a "Nazi" was, but when listed among those other things she was sure it was something bad.

"Well there was that Captain Hammer person..." She tilted her head back a bit. "He was certainly unpleasant." she didn't want to mention the fact that her arm had been sprained in that encounter. Just thinking of it was embarrassing.

"But I'm sure whatever comes, the people here will be able to handle it. There are some very strong people on this train."

"Who was Captain Hammer?"

Tsuuma sighed and took a bite of her sandwich, swallowing it before speaking. "He is.. Doctor Horrible's nemesis. Or something like that."

She huffed, laying her ears. "If that man is what is perceived" as 'good' in that world I can understand why the Doctor chose to be 'evil'.

"Ah?" He hadn't heard Dr. Horrible's name in a long time and just the thought of seeing him again sent chills down his spine. This time he decided to start on his chips, stuffing some into his mouth and chewing. When he swallowed, he glanced at her. "Either way, I think something is going to happen. Maybe not too soon, but as long as we're traveling on the train, we're going to have to face foes who want to cut the voyage short."

"I suppose you're right." Tsuuma sighed, "Though it's been quite a while since there's been a fight."

She shook her head and smiled. "But that is not why we're here. Maybe we should discuss something a bit more pleasant?"

"R-right..." He tried to fish around his mind for another topic.

Tsuuma was quiet for a moment, then smiled. "Tell me about your friends back home!"

That seemed like a good topic. His friends were obviously very important and they must be nice people if they were his friends.

"My friends? Ah, right. I don't think I've talked about them much..." Smiling sheepishly, he leaned back in his chair to think about them. Sasahara, Tanaka, Kugayama, Ohno, Ogiue, Kousaka...Kuchiki... Just thinking about them brightened things considerably. Then he realized he forgot to think about one of them.

Kasukabe.

That made him frown. More so, that Tsuuma probably noticed.

Oh good. He was happy again... Aaaand then he wasn't. Tsuuma frowned and sat back in her chair.

"I'm sorry. Did I say something wrong?"

Shaking his head, he tried to smile again. "N-no! I'm just trying to...think of what to say about them. Let's see." Madarame tried to stall by biting some more of his sandwich. "...Ah!" He spoke with his mouth full.

Tsuuma gave a small, slightly awkward smile, still very afraid she'd said something wrong. But she just took another bite of her sandwich and waited to hear what he had to say.

"Back when I was in college, I joined the Genshiken. I think you remember that, right? My club from back then." Pausing, he checked to make sure she was still following him. "It started off with just Tanaka, Kugayama, and I. We were the oldest ones in the club. Tanaka was our resident costume designer and cosplayer at first. Kugayama used to be our resident artist as well. ...Both of their positions got overtaken in time."

Tsuuma nodded. "I remember. You held a meeting on the train once and we watched Kujibiki Unbalance!" She'd had a lot of fun then. "It sounds like it was a very fun club."

"It had its ups and downs. Mostly ups, though." Sighing, he began to remember so many things from those days. "We did a lot like going to cons and shopping for merchandise at stores."

"Like the stores in that city we visited?" She didn't really know what a 'con' was but she had very much enjoyed the shopping. She still had the adorable little Viral figure she'd found sitting on her nightstand.
